Program Description:

A one time interactive educational workshop for school personnel working with parents. The program teaches "best practices" for increasing family participation in school. The workshop addresses leadership skills, how to help children at home, teaching parents about the school system, valuing cultural heritage as an asset, parents/school expectations, and how to use school, district, & community resources. A parent needs assessment form is included. The goals are to:

  • Remove barriers between parents and schools

  • Increase communication between school staff and parents in a multicultural environment

  • Use best practices in welcoming parents into the schools

  • Increase Parent Volunteers in the school

  • Incorporate cultural practices as part of the school curriculum


Participants Will:

  • Increase communication skills and strategies in working with parents.

  • Increase understanding and appreciation of Diverse Cultural heritages.

  • Increase knowledge on how to increase parental participation in school.

  • Learn best practices on how to integrate students' cultural background in their learning process.

Program Details:

Dates: September 1 - December 15 and February 1 - May 15

Times: Open

Duration: 2.0 to 3.0 hours

School Fee: $450 for Staff Development

Attendance Minimum: 5

Attendance Maximum: 30

Bilingual Presentation: Yes

Technical Needs: TV/VCR, overhead projector, markers, flip chart
