Program Description:

Celebrating Cultures! A fun hands-on, eight (8) weekly sessions, multicultural education program exploring Latin America, Mexico, and Caribbean Island cultural heritage coming from Indigenous (Aztec, Maya, Inca), European and African cultures. Students learn to use art and their culture as a resource to increase their academic success. Student's self-esteem and cultural pride are increased by connecting and honoring their cultural heritage. The program promotes Reading, Math, Writing, Social Studies, Music, Dance, and cultural diversity understanding. * Parent participation is welcomed.

Students Will:

  • Learn geography and history of Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean Islands

  • Write family journals about their cultural heritage

  • Read stories of Indigenous cultures (Aztec, Maya, Inca, Taino)

  • Learn Math Skills by cooking Latin American food

  • Learn about the African cultural connections in the Latin America, Caribbean Islands and the USA

  • Learn Latin American dances, (Salsa, Merengue, Cha-Cha-Cha etc.)

  • Create art cultural murals (paintings, masks making, maracas, piñatas, etc.)

Dates:  September 1-December 15 and February 1-May 15

Times:  Open

Duration:  2.0 - hrs each session

School Fee:  $250 one session ($2,000 - 8 weekly sessions)

Attendance Minimum:  5

Attendance Maximum:  40

Bilingual Presentation:  Yes

Technical Needs:  VCR, Overhead Projector, Tables
